KKL's Tree Planting Center at Modi'in is situated in
the "Land of the Maccabees" in the heart of the
Ben Shemen forest.
It was here that the Hasmonean family the
legendary Maccabbees - began their historic revolt
against King Antiochus Epiphanes and the Seleucid Greeks
( 175163 B.C.E.).
The forests in this region were among the first of KKL's
afforestation efforts and constitute a vital green belt
for the residents
of the Greater Tel Aviv Metropolitan area.
In the Ben Shemen forest one can find recreation areas,
picnic sites, a KKL watchtower, an open air theater, and
much more.
