Taxis

Taxis to the airport from urban centers vary in fare according to the time of day. Make sure that you are charged the correct price. Nesher Taxi at (02) 623-1231 offers 24 hour service to the airport. See the Airport entry for more information.

Buses

The bus is an efficient and inexpensive way to travel in Israel, offering a comfortable and air-conditioned ride. Buses to all points operate daily except on Friday from sunset, and on Saturday and Jewish holidays until sunset (shabbat). Most bus lines from just before 6am until approximately 11:45pm. Exact change is not required.

Tel-Aviv Central Bus Station

Tel-Aviv's recently-completed new Central Bus Station, located in the south of the city, is one of the largest of its kind in the world. Not only an efficient terminal, it features shops, food and entertainment facilities. A second Tel-Aviv bus terminal, next to the railway station, provides services to Jerusalem, Haifa, Be'er Sheva, Ashdod and points throughout the city.

Both inter-city and inner-city bus lines are operated by Egged. Jerusalem's central bus station, located at the beginning of Jaffa Rd at the north entrance to the city, services destinations all over the country.

Rail

Tel-Aviv

The Tel-Aviv Central Railway Station is at the corner of Namir and Arlozorof streets, bordering Tel-Aviv and Ramat Gan. From the station, northbound trains run to Nahariya via Hadera, Netanya, Haifa and Acre; and southbound trains run to Jerusalem once daily at 10am.

Jerusalem

The only passenger train out of Jerusalem departs for Tel-Aviv and Haifa from Sunday to Friday once in the morning and once in the afternoon. The line follows a lovely route through the hills of Jerusalem, but is much slower than the bus. The railway station is located on Hebron Rd and can be reached by bus lines 5, 6, 7, 8, 21 and 4.

Transit from Tel-Aviv

Ben-Gurion airport is located approximately 25km from Tel-Aviv, about a 25-30 minute drive. United Tours bus #222 runs from the cluster of Tel-Aviv hotels on Hayarkon St, to the youth hostel on Weizman St and the Tel-Aviv train station on Arlozorof St to Ben-Gurion Airport departure hall.

Egged bus #475 runs from the new Tel-Aviv Central Bus Station to Ben-Gurion Airport Platform #3.

Transit from Jerusalem

Ben-Gurion airport is approximately 45km from Jerusalem, about a 45 minute drive.

Bus: From the Jerusalem Central Bus Station, an Egged bus service runs every 30 to 45 minutes from 6:30am to 9:40pm.

Taxi: All 'special' taxi fares, such as those to the airport, are governed by meters based on tariff I (from 5:30am to 8:59pm) and tariff II (9pm to 5:29am). At the beginning of the journey, the driver is obliged by law to activate the meter, and, at your request, to provide an official receipt printed by the electronic meter. For complaints, call the Ministry of Transportation at (03) 565-7199 in Tel-Aviv or at P.O. Box 867, Jerusalem 91008.

Sherut: These fixed-route taxis run between major cites, offering an alternative means of travelling between Jerusalem, Tel-Aviv, Haifa and stops along the way. (Sheruts also operate within the cities, usually following the most frequented bus routes.)
